Polar Ice facilities offer Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey classes throughout the year.  These classes are designed to teach the fundamentals of skating so individuals can continue on as a hockey player, figure skater or recreational skater.

The primary program goal is for every skater to correctly learn all the skills introduced in a level before advancing to the next level.

Snow Plow Sam Levels 1-3

If your child is ages 3-6 and has never skated, this is the starting point. Snowplow Sam classes are based on the U.S Figure Skating Basic Skills Program.

Children will advance through levels 1-3 with each level gradually becoming more challenging.

Basic Levels 1-8

These eight levels of skating based on the U.S Figure Skating Basic Skills program, skaters will be introduced to the fundamental moves of skating: Forward and Backward Stroking and Crossovers, T-stops, Inside and Outside edges, both forward and backwards, 3-turns, and Mohawks.

Upon completion of Basic 1-8, skaters will have the basic knowledge enabling them to advance to the more specialized areas of freestyle jumps and spins. Ages 7 and up.

Freeskate 1-6

The Freeskate levels are designed to give skaters a strong foundation on which to build up their skills. This is the point where the skater can choose whether to pursue a recreational or competitive approach to the sport of figure skating.

Skaters will learn more advanced maneuvers including Waltz Jumps-Axels. Forward and Backward Spins, intricate footwork sequence, and combination maneuvers.

Adult Levels 1-4

The Adult curriculum is designed to promote physical fitness, improve balance and coordination while learning proper skating techniques.

Although divided into levels, the adult skater will progress at an individual rate while being challenged and motivated.
