Behind
the Mask (BTM) was founded in 1994 by former
professional hockey player Randy Exelby. Randy
graduated from Lake Superior State University
playing 4 years of Varsity hockey. Drafted by the
Montreal Canadiens Randy played in Sherbrooke in the
American Hockey League (AHL), capturing the top
goalie and lowest goals against average while there.
Randy had a cup of coffee with the Montreal
Canadiens (NHL) backing up Patrick Roy on numerous
occasions.
Traded to Edmonton Randy landed in Phoenix to play
with the International Hockey League (IHL) Phoenix
Roadrunners. Randy had several stints with the
Edmonton Oilers (NHL).After retiring Randy started
goalie schools in both the USA and Canada which he
still continues in the greater Phoenix area along
with player and inline schools.
With Randy's playing experience and passion for the
game Behind the Mask was created to not only provide
hockey equipment but also to help with proper
fitting and selection of equipment. As hockey grew
Behind the Mask expanded to its 3 retail store
locations covering greater
Phoenix. Behind the Mask
specializes in goal equipment. Behind the Mask also
